Although I talk about Los Angeles travel all the time, I had actually never stayed at an LA hotel up until recently.
Living in LA County over the past few years, I’ve just never really had the need — that is, up until my husband and I planned to celebrate our third wedding anniversary in Hollywood. With tickets to catch a late movie at the Chinese Theatre (which I highly recommend — such a cool experience and one of the best places in LA!), we spontaneously decided to get a hotel, so we wouldn’t have to deal with driving home after such a late night.
Dream Hollywood, a Hyatt hotel, was where we landed, and let me just start off by saying, I was impressed.
Located on Selma Avenue, this 4-star boutique hotel pulled out all the stops to give us a special stay, and the location made it a no-brainer for our night out in Hollywood.
It had all the features you look for for a comfortable stay, plus some fun extras — but I’ll break down everything I loved — and didn’t — here.

What I loved
The staff, first and foremost, were all super kind and helpful, and they immediately set a positive tone when we walked in. From the front desk to the housekeepers and restaurant staff, everyone was very friendly and attentive.
I also really appreciated the thoughtful touches like free welcome drinks (a glass of red, white, or sparkling wine), and we even lucked out and got a free upgrade to a suite with a balcony.
Check-out is normally at 11, but we asked and were also given a complimentary late check-out at noon, which was so nice too. (You can stay for later depending on availability, but there would be a fee).
The room and bathroom were spacious, and I especially appreciated the two sinks, plenty of counter space, and how the toilet was in a private enclosed area. And most importantly, the bed was really comfortable.

Another highlight was the rooftop. I wish we’d had more time to hang out and relax there! It had a gorgeous pool with lots of relaxing-looking seating areas, with a server there so you could order drinks and whatnot directly to your pool chair.
The rooftop was also home to the hotel’s restaurant, which had an awesome view including the Hollywood sign. Even after years of living here, I never tire of seeing that!
We did end up eating brunch there, and while I found it to be a bit overpriced, we enjoyed our meals (we shared a breakfast burrito and chicken and waffles), and the prices were to be expected for a nicer hotel and for the area. We didn’t try any cocktails, but they all sounded good.
Other features you may look for are that there was the option for contactless check-in and check-out. To be honest, I don’t know why people prefer this option, and I opted to do it the old-fashioned way, but putting it out there as a feature.
There were elevators available as well, plus a lobby bar (which served a grab-and-go breakfast) and room service.

What I didn’t love
We had a lot of leftovers from our dinner (Love2Eat Thai — definitely go when you’re in Hollywood!), and I assumed that we would have a mini fridge in our room.
Fridges weren’t automatically provided, but we were told we could call and request one. It arrived in 10 minutes, which was fine, but I think the fridge needed some time to fully cool down.
We had to leave asap, so we put our food in right as it arrived, and headed out for the night. When we came back that night, there was a really strong smell, and we ended up just throwing our food out unfortunately.
The other thing to note is the parking. Dream Hollywood only offers valet parking, which was $65 a night, which I honestly consider outrageous. It really irks me when hotels take advantage of being in a parking-impacted area and charge prices like that.
With that said, I did use SpotHero to reserve an overnight spot in a nearby garage. We were able to park for around 18 hours for $22, which is much more reasonable.
Also, this is a bit nitpicky, but this was probably the most confusing shower I’ve ever encountered (it kind of looked like a Rubix cube, with one piece controlling the off-on and another piece for the temperature). I also would have loved some art or more unique touches in the room for its price-point.
However, none of these things really hindered our stay. We were able to find a better parking alternative, and I now know to check about the mini-fridge ahead of time if this is something I’m counting on.
✨ Skip the headache of finding a hotel that checks every box. Reserve your room at Dream Hollywood by Hyatt for a convenient location, comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and a rooftop pool with an unforgettable view.

My thoughts on the location
When I’m booking a hotel, location is one of the most important factors I consider. This was conveniently located to each of our planned stops for the night, but it was also my one hesitancy.
Hollywood often feels extremely chaotic to me, and although I’ve visited a number of times over the years, I’d always tried to limit my time there. We weren’t getting out of our movie until around 1 a.m., and I was a bit nervous about walking the 10 minutes to our hotel afterward.
The area generally felt much calmer than I was expecting. Located a few blocks away from Hollywood Boulevard, where you’ll find the Walk of Fame, and said chaos, I actually felt totally fine walking around at night. (Of course, just stay aware of your surroundings and all that good stuff — get all my LA safety tips in this guide).
I was also a little worried about noise when trying to sleep. Complimentary earplugs were provided in our room, but we didn’t end up needing them, as it was pretty quiet, despite the nearby nightclubs and restaurants.
My stay was on a Thursday night, however, so I do wonder if there could be a significant noise difference if you stay on a Friday or Saturday, and that may be something worth considering before you book.
With that all in mind, the location was extremely convenient for us. Our itinerary included stops at Love2Eat Thai Bistro, Musso & Frank Grill, and the TCL Chinese Theatre, and all were super walkable to the hotel.

Price and Value for Money
So, I’ll be honest — this is not the most budget-friendly hotel out there. On weekdays, rooms seem to mostly range from around $270 to $330ish, and go even higher on weekends.
I think this is fairly comparable to other hotels in the area (a few alternatives are below).
Personally, I used points to book (I transferred points from my Chase card to Hyatt), which made this feasible for me, but as long as I could afford it, I would book again and pay.
Being in such a prime location — and with all the extra features that made it a memorable stay — I do think the hotel offered great value, and would be a really comfortable base for your trip, whether it’s a quick weekend or a longer stay in Los Angeles.
On Expedia, it’s rated an 8.8 with over 1,000 reviews, which also speaks to the overall guest experience.

Alternatives for your trip to Hollywood
While I think Dream Hollywood is fairly priced and met all our needs, there are other options you can consider in the area.
Here are a couple I have my eye on for a future stay:
- 🌴Hollywood Hotel is slightly more affordable, with lots of rooms available for under $200. Despite being cheaper, it still has great ratings (8.0 on Expedia at the time of writing), and is conveniently located. Features that caught my eye include its gorgeous restaurant serving breakfast, and relaxing-looking rooftop pool. Check out the photos and more details here!
- 🎬The Hollywood Franklin Hotel looks like a great pick especially if you’re trying to lean into the Hollywood theme! It has a swanky-looking bar, plus incorporates a lot of pop culture-related art, and has an overall fun vibe. Ratings are high and it has a bar, restaurant and pool. Plus, the building dates back to 1926! Find out more here.
- 🍸If you’re looking for a comparably-priced option to Dream Hollywood that’s even more beautiful, The Hollywood Grande, Autograph Collection definitely has to be on your radar. Like, just look at these pictures! Every single one just transports me to the luxurious Los Angeles vacation of my dreams, from its restaurant to its lounge space, to the view from the rooms. Reserve your room here!
If you’re not set on staying right in Hollywood, and are still comparing neighborhoods across LA for your trip, I also have more budget-friendly options in this “Where to Stay in Los Angeles” guide.

All in all, I would highly recommend Dream Hollywood, and I would jump at the chance to stay here again!
