To me, few places truly say “vacation” quite like Palm Springs. It’s been a vacation destination for the past century, and its mix of funky mid-century modern style, relaxing desert landscapes, and exciting dining and nightlife, all make it a no-brainer for an easy California getaway.
So, where’s the right place to base yourself for your Palm Springs vacation?
I’ve visited Palm Springs a few times over the years, staying in different areas of Greater Palm Springs, and during my most recent trip with my husband, we spent it at Hyatt Palm Springs.
First things first, this was by far the best location I’ve experienced.
Staying at the Hyatt Palm Springs truly made for such a low-stress vacation, since we were steps away from tons of dining, shopping, and all the different sites of Downtown.
Because of the location alone, I would definitely recommend this 4-star hotel for your trip.
But this Hyatt Palm Springs review will get into the little details I wasn’t as thrilled about, the amenities to be aware of, and if I think this is or isn’t right for you, depending on your needs.
Full transparency — we chose this hotel for our stay because we could use credit card points. The reviews were a little bit lower than what I usually prefer, which made me a bit skeptical – but honestly, I was impressed by the overall value, and would consider staying here again (and paying) for a future stay.

Overview of the Hyatt Palm Springs
This 4-star hotel has nearly 200 rooms — all of which are suites. I didn’t realize this when we booked, and it was a very pleasant surprise to not have to climb over our suitcases the entire weekend.
With a bedroom, a parlor area, two televisions, and a large bathroom, you really can’t beat the amount of space here.
My husband also had some work he had to do on our trip, and it was so nice having separate areas, so I could relax and watch television without disrupting him.
Other features include:
- A pool (a must in Palm Springs, trust me)
- A 24-hour fitness room
- An onsite bar, and two restaurants
Hyatt Palm Springs is dog-friendly, but there’s a $100 one-time fee for a stay of up to a week. There are also elevators.

What I loved about my stay
The perfect location
To me, location is one of the biggest factors that can make-or-break a hotel stay — before booking, I always ask myself if it’s going to be convenient for finding places to eat and sightseeing.
Hyatt Palm Springs is located right in Downtown, and let me tell you, exploring Downtown is one of the best things to do in Palm Springs — it’s where you’ll find lots of shopping, dining, public art, and sites like the Agua Caliente Cultural Center.
If you’re worried about noise, that wasn’t a problem at all. The Hyatt was located on the outskirts of Downtown, meaning it was slightly set apart from the main crowds and the bulk of the nightlife.
There were a couple of bars right across the street, but we weren’t disrupted at all by them, and our room was directly facing them.
For other sites like Indian Canyon (a gorgeous hiking area — I highly recommend fitting it into your Palm Springs itinerary!), it was less than 10 minutes away by car.
Finding parking also wasn’t at all an issue. Coming from the LA area, I was truly shocked to discover how abundant the free parking was in Downtown Palm Springs. We had no issue finding an overnight spot, or throughout the day, and this was for a weekend trip during a busy time of year.

The hotel itself
But ok, I know that the location isn’t the only deciding factor when booking a hotel.
As mentioned, the other stand-out feature for me was the size of the rooms.
Also super important to note, the bed was very comfortable, and I loved having a little balcony, where I could sit out and read.
I also appreciated the design of the hotel. The hotel had a sort of open layout, with all the rooms overlooking the lobby area, creating a geometric effect.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to try out either of the onsite restaurants, so I can’t speak to their quality!

What I didn’t love
While we overall had a positive stay, there were a few things that I think could have been improved upon.
Luckily, we could get natural light into the bedroom area from the balcony, but the room overall was still quite dark. Palm Springs is such a design-focused city, and while the lobby and elevator had some style to it, as a 4-star hotel, I would have loved to see this style reflected a bit more in the rooms, which were a bit dated and drab, with dark walls.
This also wasn’t a big deal for us, but I would have preferred to have a smart TV in the room, rather than an older model.
There was also a daily parking fee of $30. I’ve seen other hotels charge way more, but still, this seemed a bit steep considering parking is so abundant downtown. With that said, we skipped the hotel’s parking, and just stuck to street parking.

Value for money
For full transparency in this Hyatt Palm Springs review, I will note that I used credit card points to stay here — I transferred points from Chase to Hyatt.
If you can’t use points, it looks like prices fluctuate throughout the year, but the lowest rates seem to start at $190 a night, including taxes and fees, and go up from there.
Overall, I found the hotel to offer good value, considering that its location plays such a huge role in your overall experience in Palm Springs.
But, I would perhaps expect it to be a bit more special for its price point. Apart from its great location, there wasn’t much of a “wow factor,” or extra touches that made our stay more memorable.
With that said, I do think it is a solid option in Palm Springs, offering comfortable rooms, plenty of space, all the amenities you’d need, and again, a perfect location for exploring the city. And I do think that to have such a perfect location, it would be difficult to find a better price.

Consider other options if …
The good news is (or bad news, if you hate trip planning), that as a city that’s been operating as a vacation destination for decades, there’s no shortage of hotel options throughout the city.
Here are a few reasons I may consider looking elsewhere:
- I think if you’re looking for a more design-focused, boutique hotel, you may be disappointed by the Hyatt.
- If you’re open to staying a little farther from Downtown and giving up that convenience, (or you just don’t mind driving at all), that opens up your options a lot.
- If you have the budget for ultra-luxury, I would also probably look for a more unique, special stay.
- On the opposite end, if you’re working with a lower budget, I would also consider staying a little farther outside of Downtown, where you’ll likely find lower-priced options.
I’ve rounded up a few highly-rated hotel choices in this guide.
So, is staying at Hyatt Palm Springs worth it?
I would say yes.
Between the perfect location, spacious room, and pool, it really had everything I personally look for in a Palm Springs accommodation. (Especially if you’re visiting Palm Springs in the summer, you do NOT want to skimp on the pool, trust me!)
Palm Springs is a destination that’s all about relaxing — wandering into shops and galleries, lazing by the pool, relaxing in hot springs, and strolling under California fan palm trees.
And for me, staying at Hyatt Palm Springs really helped make the trip.
